A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion.

About the role

Haringey Council is currently seeking a Senior Infrastructure Network and Voice Engineer to join our Digital and Change Business Unit within the Culture, Strategy and Engagement Directorate. As a Senior Infrastructure Network and Voice Engineer, you will be responsible for providing voice and data network services to users across the Council, ensuring minimal disruption and loss of service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of complex incidents, major incidents, and problem cases, and guiding team members in diagnostics and resolutions.
  • Leading technical changes and identifying service improvements.
  • Researching new solutions and technologies to form recommendations for continual service improvement.
  • Reporting to the Networks Manager and establishing strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring response and fix times are aligned with the network team SLAs.
  • Providing mentoring and guidance to less experienced colleagues.
  • Leading complex upgrades and/or changes that may require out-of-hours availability.
  • Investigating and diagnosing complex network problems, and maintaining overall network performance.
  • Supporting the Networks Manager in producing system designs, specifications, and documentation.

About the team

We are looking for individuals who can work effectively in small teams on a day-to-day basis. As a senior operative, you will have similar responsibilities as your colleagues, and you will cover the borough. The job involves working in all weather conditions, but our teams are dedicated to making the local environment a pleasant place to visit, no matter what.

About you

We are seeking individuals who are strong communicators with the ability to translate complex network matters to those without an IT background. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong knowledge of OSPF and BGP routing protocols, DNS, DHCP, and IPAM platforms.
  • Experience in supporting and managing common networking protocols, including BGP/OSPF/VRF/EIGRP.
  • Excellent working knowledge of firewalls, specifically Cisco ASA and Palo Alto.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of voice platforms and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with the principles, functions, and operation of Wi-Fi components and the installation and configuration of wireless access points (Meraki).
  • Experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Expert understanding of subnetting, VLANs, and associated routing protocols.
