The Role
An excellent opportunity is available at our London office for the position of Project Engineer (Mechanical) within the Mechanical team. The Project Engineer Mechanical is responsible for delivering engineering services from design through to construction, focusing predominantly on commercial office projects within London, while also covering other sectors including hotel and residential, retail, and laboratory projects.
- As a Project Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing medium and large-sized projects, ensuring that they are executed efficiently and effectively. Your role involves applying your deep technical knowledge and skills to manage complex projects, ensuring that all aspects are well-coordinated and integrated.
- In terms of Technical Excellence, you will be involved in designing and documenting systems through various phases, from concept to detailed documentation. This ensures that all project activities and designs are fully integrated and meet the required standards.
- For Client Management, you will oversee NDY’s involvement in projects, ensuring that client needs are met, and that work is completed efficiently. This includes identifying and engaging with clients and stakeholders to build strong relationships and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Regarding Financial Accountability, you will provide input for job costing, time plans, and fee preparation in consultation with the Manager and Project Director. You will also monitor project workloads and advise on resource requirements to ensure that projects are adequately staffed and resourced.
- Lastly, in Collaboration and Mentoring, you will mentor less experienced team members and manage a small team. This involves effectively delegating tasks, sharing knowledge, and fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Who and what we’re looking for
- A minimum of three years of engineering experience in mechanical building services design.
- A recognised mechanical engineering qualification.
- Ability to independently complete engineering analysis and design of mechanical systems as well as liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Ability to verify design work completed by others and provide mentoring, coaching, and training to less experienced engineers.
- Previous project leader/project management experience with multi-disciplinary project teams, including managing project resources and finances.
- Experience designing commercial office buildings is advantageous.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff across various technical backgrounds.
- Familiarity with the full range of RIBA design stages, particularly from Stage 1 to Stage 4A is desirable.
