Senior Mechanical Estimator
What you will be doing:
An opportunity has arisen for an Senior Mechanical Estimator to join the team at Galliford Try.
As an Senior Mechanical Estimator you will support the business through the submission of accurate and competitive tenders to satisfy the clients requirements and to ensure the Company secures adequate new business to achieve targeted turnover and profit levels with appropriate year on year growth. Primarily working as part of a versatile and experienced team on infrastructure / non-infrastructure Clean Water, Wastewater and Sludge Treatment projects. Galliford Try have Frameworks in all of the UK Water PLC’s with a good, long term pipeline of work into AMP 8.
You will:
- Inputting a tender win strategy for each individual tender.
- Actively engage, and develop long term relationships with, key supply chain organisations.
- Identify opportunities for margin growth, identify and analyse risks and produce the associated risk register.
- Participate in post tender interviews, presentations and negotiations with clients and ensure the successful handover to delivery teams following award.
- Developing innovative approaches where appropriate to differentiate the bid from competitors.
- Collate targeted feedback on successful projects and provide advice for future tenders.
- Prepare site preliminary cost estimates in accordance with the current Company trading requirements.
- Prepare submission documents in line with the bid and corporate requirement.
- Attend tender settlement meetings ensuring all relevant cost information is available for presentation and complete the tender as instructed.
- Provide informal and formal support and guidance to other members of the estimating team.
- Responsible for completing PDR’s for all direct reports.
About You:
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter.
- Extensive experience of estimating from first principals.
- Knowledge of estimating process utilising a computerised analytical estimating system. (CANDY preferable but not essential)
- Ability to challenge team constructively.
- Strong commercial acumen and good analytical skills.
- Collaborative attitude.
- Full understanding of Conditions of Contract
- Clean Water, Wastewater and Sludge Treatment experience preferred.
- Full understanding of Clients Asset Standards and WIMES Specifications.
- Full understanding / produce: Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in risk management techniques.
- High level of commercial awareness and technical knowledge.
- Aware of individual Health and Safety responsibilities and adheres to company health and safety policy and procedures.
- Track record of success in supporting a major contract or Business Unit and/or providing support to a professional function.
- Able to demonstrate alignment and work in line with the Galliford Try values: Excellence, Passion, Integrity and Collaboration.
- Proven Estimating experience including schedule of rates bottom up estimating and cost curves.
- Likely to be educated to Degree level or equivalent.
- Fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Able to demonstrate relevant managerial and/or technical experience at a senior level.

Our Environment Business provides ‘source to sea’ asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects. Since AMP3 we have delivered in excess of £2bn assets for clients such as Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water and Scottish Water.
