The Performance team are custodians of train service performance across the Avanti West Coast network. Our role is to lead our colleagues in achieving industry performance targets and optimizing train service performance through intelligent and insightful strategies. We leverage available data and emerging technologies, working in partnership with frontline delivery teams and Network Rail Routes to ensure excellence in service.

As a Senior Performance Analyst, you will lead the Performance Measurement and Analysis Strategy, ensuring high data quality and integrity. You'll advance team capabilities in benefits measurement, analysis, and reporting by harnessing AI, automation, and data visualization tools. Your role includes modelling and forecasting company performance, informing benchmark negotiations, target setting, and data-driven decision-making. Additionally, you'll ensure compliance with industry delay attribution rules and contractual requirements, acting as a senior point of escalation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Performance Measurement and Analysis Team, setting goals and allocating resources.
• Forecast company performance using data analysis and industry trends, providing insights for decision-making.
• Support performance budget negotiations with the Department for Transport, preparing proposals and presenting data.
• Lead internal target setting, translating benchmarks into realistic targets across Avanti Directorates and Functions.
• Develop and manage models for quantifying performance risks and benefits from improvement schemes.
• Ensure accurate collection, validation, and maintenance of performance data, collaborating with various departments.
• Conduct detailed analysis of train performance data, developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate performance findings to stakeholders.
  
  

Skills And Requirements

• Excellent understanding of data management, analysis, and modelling methods, with knowledge of AI, data automation, and Microsoft Power Platform being advantageous.
• In-depth understanding of railway operations and performance metrics, including KPIs and factors affecting whole system performance.
• Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to develop and analyse operational data and performance reports accurately.
• Strong organisational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and develop positive relationships with stakeholders, conveying complex information clearly.
• Expertise in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI), with experience in extracting and manipulating data to generate meaningful insights, preferably within the rail industry or a transportation-related sector.
