An engineering role within the Operations team, this position is responsible for maintaining and improving manufacturing processes and equipment to enable the successful manufacture and testing of various valves for the Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Marine sectors.

The role will also require supporting and training operators and production engineers, preparing proposals for new equipment, running departmental projects whilst consulting with other departments to ensure that health, safety, environmental and security requirements are maintained to the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support with, and make improvements to, a wide range of production techniques for machining and assembly of components.
  • Assist production team with their day-to-day production requirements by providing them with technical assistance and problem-solving solutions.
  • Produce programs, and set-up sheets for a variety of multi-axis CNC machines, including 5-axis turn-mill, sliding head turn-mill and 5-axis milling. Support with the prove out of new programs.
  • Develop solutions for manufacturing components across the machine shop using standardised tooling and production methods wherever possible.
  • Design new cutting tools and work holding solutions where the needs of production cannot be met within a standard offering.
  • Identify defective products and processes that require a cross-functional team to review. Organise and lead RCAs to get to the root cause of an issue. Implement corrective actions to provide swift and permanent resolutions.
  • Identify waste within the manufacturing processes and lead continuous improvement activities and process improvements by organising meetings and workshops and actively contributing to the agreed action plan.
  • Review cost of products, and cost of poor quality by reviewing and responding to NCRs as required. Raise, and respond to, change requests to prevent reoccurrence of quality issues.
  • Design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D) for use in production, to ensure ease of use, consistency of manufacture and error-proofing whilst following lean principles.
  • Provide detailed manufacturing procedures.
  • Monitor production output through utilisation, OEE and machine uptime reports. Analyse data and trends to implement improvement actions to work towards 'world-class' productivity.
  • Liaise with the design engineering department, reviewing new products before they are released into production. Conduct PFMEAs to ensure that all designs are fit for manufacture at the most efficient cost.
  • Produce accurate and detailed production routes, specifying operation details, work centres, procedures, and time estimates for the in-house manufacture of products.
  • Use the ERP/MRP system to add and maintain data owned by production engineering including part numbers, routes, bills of material, work centres and batch sizes.
  • Co-ordinate project teams when appropriate to ensure the related small team of engineers efficiently delivers the project workload.
  • Check, verify, and sign off work completed by Level 1, 2 and 3 Production Engineers as appropriate, providing mentorship if required.
  • Maintain and apply lean principles to the operational environment.
  • Apply VAVE to production processes, ensuring manufacturing costs are minimised and cost targets are achieved by working effectively with other departments.
  • Identify new machinery and equipment requirements by assessing the needs of the business and researching alternative options and providers. Prepare CAPEX requests and work with management & finance to submit robust proposals for approval.
  • Prepare and lead internal projects for the procurement of new equipment. Consult with other departments to deliver the equipment on time and within budget, without compromising the safety or security of employees, the site, or IT systems.
