The opportunity
We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Product Safety professional to join us at Leonardo. This role has the Flexibility of being based in or around any of our sites UK Wide. We will also offer the flexibility of working from from home 2-3 times a week.
This role will be a Senior Supportability Engineer or Principal Supportability Engineer position.
The team you will be joining form part of a multi discipline engineering team responsible for both production of existing electro-optic systems and the design and development of our next generation of electro-optic products. You will have the opportunity to ensure the supportability characteristics of our products are understood and aligned to the customers’ operational and support needs.
You will be joining our multi discipline engineering team responsible for the delivery of our ICRM (Infra-Red Counter Measures) systems and laser ranging and designating systems. Within this team you will also help to develop our next generation of laser and electro-optic systems including on the Dragonfire and GCAP Programmes.
We will give you the environment to develop your existing technical skills across the various radar product design phases, helping us to deliver world leading, highly reliable and capable integrated sensor systems for our worldwide customer base. The Supportability function has a unique position within our business as it is involved in all the stages of a programme, from Bid, to Development, to Production then Customer Support and eventually disposal. We draw engineers from many different disciplines in addition to Supportability, such as Electronic, Mechanical and Systems Engineering to enhance the Supportability Team.
What you’ll do as a Senior/Principal Supportability Engineer
You will be actively involved in analysing, assessing and influencing the supportability characteristics and performance of the next generation of Leonardo products.
You will be responsible for;
- Performing Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analyses (FMEA/FMECA) on electronic cards as part of laser systems to feed into the ongoing design process.
- Engaging with the Integrated Project Teams to deliver Supportability Engineering (SE) work packages covering Reliability, Maintainability and Testability (RM&T) analysis, Support Strategy planning and modelling.
- Using a variety of analytical techniques and procedures to perform RM&T analysis on integrated systems.
- Working closely with systems, mechanical, software, RF, electronics and safety engineers to identify and avoid real support related problems on complex systems, before they reach the Customer.
- Use your engineering talent to grow and develop the supportability community and core skills base.
- Contribute to continuous process/procedural improvements to help drive out the cost and reputational consequence of failure.
- Understanding the Customers’ operational needs to help guide the development of equipment capable of meeting the needs of future operational environments.
- Contributing to IPT and Engineering Unit decision making.
- Provide guidance on through life cost of ownership.
- Providing domain experience in support of customer and user engagement and product roadmaps.
What we need from you
Ideally, you will have a degree in a relevant engineering or science disciple and have either worked in industry, defence or have other relevant experience.
If you have any experience in the following areas we would be keen to hear from you and we favour behaviours and experience over a specific toolset.
- Working knowledge of RMT analysis techniques on electronic, power, RF, and mixed technology systems.
- Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) on electronic components/circuits from component level through to system level covering power circuits, analogue, RF and digital assemblies.
- Familiar with statistical data analysis.
- Creation of beneficial relationships with cross functional colleagues, customers and suppliers
Our team use PTC Windchill Risk and Reliability; Reliasoft; OPUS; Simlox; Matlab / Simulink; Jira and Python and although expertise is not essential, familiarity with some would be beneficial.
