Description
We are growing our Digital department and are looking for a Developer from a Web background with at least 3 years of experience to help us transform and drive forward our client's digital solutions.
You will help develop some of the UK's largest retail insurers' use of digital to drive their businesses including Tesco Bank, Co-Op and Sainsbury's Bank, playing a pivotal part in assisting them to modernise their tech stacks.
You'll be excited by the capabilities of new technologies that we are moving to but also won't be phased by the older tech we are migrating from, with a passion and desire to work in a Test-Driven Development (TDD) & DevOps culture.
About the team
Within the Digital department, we have a number of Software Engineer roles in our client implementation squads that focus on driving and delivering against customer roadmaps. Each delivery squad is multi-disciplined and consists of up to 10 members across delivery management, DevOps, Business Analysis, Quality and Software Engineering.
You will be part of the Software Engineering community with other Software Engineers within the Digital department, inputting to the direction of software engineering, sharing and driving best practices, and internal open source across the Digital department.
You must demonstrate a strong desire to not only improve yourself but participate in our culture of learning & sharing. You will have support from our Software Engineering Seniors, Leads and Principals, as well as support to gain industry-recognised certifications.

Key Responsibilities
As a competent individual contributor in hybrid working environment, you will play a pivotal role in the development of innovative web applications.
- Transitioning legacy products to our latest NextJs tech stack
- Embracing AI to help gain efficiencies
- Ensuring code quality by writing test-driven, well-structured, and maintainable code with a focus on performance, security, and best practices
- Troubleshooting and debugging issues to provide technical support and guidance to the team
- Leveraging AWS (Amazon Web Services) services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3 to build efficient, cost-effective, and scalable solutions – during your probation you will be given learning time to obtain AWS certification of your choosing.
- Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define, design, and implement new features and enhancements
- Staying up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve our products and development processes
Experience we think you will need
- 3 years of commercial experience as a Front-End Engineer in a JavaScript/HTML environment
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Proficiency in writing test driven JavaScript and related front-end technologies
- Experience in developing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate and work well with others to meet product delivery deadlines
- Passion for learning and staying updated with evolving technologies
- Agile working practices
Desirable
- DevOps: Infrastructure as code, Pipelines, Docker, Cloud architecture (AWS preferred)
- React
- Serverless
It would also be beneficial to have
- Working development knowledge of AWS

The salary for the role of Software Engineer - Web (Level 3) pays
up to £42,000p.a. Falling within our pay banding of £27,500 to £46,000, providing a fantastic opportunity for career progression through CDL's clearly defined career framework (https://progression.cdl.co.uk/).
