Location: REMOTE with occasional site visit/office visit

Contract Type: 12 months contract, possible extension

IR35 Status: Inside, Umbrella

Day rate: £450-550/day

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, 5 days

Role Overview

The Solar Engineer shall deliver Electrical services in the Engineering Team, CTO, and wider business, demonstrating an ability to add value to opportunities in a highly competitive and changing marketplace while ensuring appropriate Engineering and Quality standards are maintained. You will be responsible for assisting the delivery of multi-million-pound Solar PV & Battery Storage (BESS) projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Asset Operations teams in evaluating performance of sites particularly when performance is below expectations to identify root causes and find solutions.
  • Undertake in depth performance evaluation of PV systems to improve yield; identify and rectify component level performance issues, identify issues that can be claimed under product and performance warranties, investigate unexpected degradation issues, serial faults etc.
  • Organize downloading and preserving weather data from operational sites using all the sensors that are available to help collect long term weather and performance data to help refine yield and life predictions (lessons learnt)
  • Prepare and review layouts, Energy Yield Assessments (EYA), Assumption Book, investment dossier etc. as PV Technical PoC in engineering, which will provide independent oversight of the work done in house or through consultants/3rd parties.
  • Organize and take up quality inspections of PV sites like Golden Table inspection, pre- and post-delivery module tests, Weather station inspection, PAT (Preliminary Acceptance Test), Annual performance tests etc.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of an Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Chartered membership of an appropriate body would be an advantage.
  • Previous experience in Solar PV projects NEEDED!
  • Clear understanding of Photovoltaic Systems (PV) with knowledge on the different features/components related to PV installations: electrical/inverters, batteries, structural/frames, installation, maintenance, etc.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in design software such as PVSyst, PV Sol, AutoCAD or equivalent.
