We specialise in caring for adults with neurological conditions, as well as patients with tracheostomies, and who require ventilator support. We currently have three homes, Fairlie House which is in West Norwood with 45 beds, Highfield House which is located in Purley with 45 beds and finally, Woodstown House in Banstead with 40 beds, which opened its doors to its first residents in April 2021. All three homes have achieved the highest rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we continually strive to maintain our 'Outstanding' rating.

Scope

  • To provide a comprehensive specialist neurological & respiratory physiotherapy assessment and intervention to patients, who are receiving slow-stream rehabilitation / maintenance therapy for above defined diagnoses with complex neuro-disability presentations, according to current clinical evidence and national guidelines. Post-holder will work autonomously, providing physiotherapy / physical activities for patients with diverse presentations and complex neuro-disability across the respective Centre sites

Key Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for a overall therapy clinical caseload and ensure that the patients/residents receive appropriate assessment and treatment to a high professional standard, in accordance with the Professional Standards and Code of Ethics of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP). To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and supervision of others.
  • To undertake specialist assessment of residents, including those with diverse or complex physical disability and multi-pathologies; use clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate foundation for the physio-therapeutic management of resident's conditions.
  • To be responsible to undertake (a) a specialist assessment of neurological physiotherapy, neuro-musculoskeletal (b) providing tailored physical therapy / physical activity program on a wide range of intervention options and (c) to monitor, evaluate resident's progress with appropriate and valid outcome measures to formulate the resident-centred care through framework / model of care e.g ICF. (d) respiratory assessment for complex non-invasive ventilation therapy and care support.
  • To ensure competence in the use of all required equipment and are used safely at all times during treatment; and to ensure residents' competence in and safe use of any appliances and aids used by them.
  • To be responsible and accountable to demonstrate knowledge, skill of using outcome measures and implementing measures, e.g SMART, GAS goals, FIM/FAM, CPAX, NPTDA-PHYS, NPDS-H, NIS, RCS, ASIA, pain scales.
  • To be responsible to undertake full assessment and independently plan individual, specialised, evidence-based, treatment programmes for residents appropriately depending on the physiotherapist's or medical diagnosis, using clinical reasoning and a variety of highly specialist skills such as use of respiratory and ventilatory adjuncts, tracheostomy management, capillary blood gases and plan further intervention / rehabilitation.
  • To be responsible for intervention, such as nebuliser devices and airway clearance adjuncts (including insufflation-exsufflation device). To issue such equipment with due regard to safety of the equipment, and in line with legal, national, and local guidelines.

What do I need to be successful?

For this role, you are required to have the following attributes:

  • You Must have full right to work in the UK without sponsorship (we are not accepting candidates on a student visa and skilled workers)
  • To be responsible for maintaining his / her own competency to practice through CPD activities, and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.
  • To be responsible to maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice in the area of working, developing specialist knowledge of particular condition(s).
  • To be an active member of the in-service training programme and clinical audits by managing, leading, attending and participating in sessions. To attend individual training sessions, external courses and peer review as appropriate.
  • Ensure knowledge and skills are kept up to date by attending additional training as identified during supervision, appraisal and development sessions, and to ensure these are reflected in practice during your working shift.
  • To be responsible to provide developing and training to therapists, assistants, including assessing and ongoing evaluation of departments performance.
  • To be responsible to provide training to caregivers (such as HCAs), nursing staff and residents' families e.g 24-hour postural management, respiratory management, transfer techniques, handling skills, walking.
  • To complete Module 3 FHG AHP competency framework in line with HCPC and CSP to Level 5 Grading and reviewed annually by line manager or clinical supervisor.
  • To ensure all mandatory training is kept up to date, to attend supervision sessions and to undertake an annual appraisal as directed by the Clinical Services Manager.
