Staff Software Engineer (C#/Rust)

The Role:

As a Principal Engineer at Trayport, you will take on the critical role of technical lead in the development of Joule Direct, a cutting-edge energy trading platform designed for high-throughput and low-latency performance. Joule Direct is central to Trayport’s mission of transforming energy markets, providing traders with a robust and scalable platform to execute complex transactions in real-time, across multiple asset classes.

Your primary responsibility will be to architect and deliver solutions that ensure the platform’s reliability, speed, and scalability, handling thousands of trades per second while minimizing latency and maximizing throughput. You will lead a cross-functional team of engineers, working closely with developers, product managers and operations to drive the technical vision and execution of the platform.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

• Code: Contribute directly to the platform’s development.
• Collaborate: Work with product managers and team leads to clarify requirements, identify risks and tradeoffs, and propose technical solutions to tackle complex challenges.
• Support Teams: Work closely with Product Engineering, SRE, and DevEx teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, psychological safety, and diversity.
• Innovate: Implement best practices and new technologies to elevate platform capabilities.

You

• A strong background in highly-available, distributed systems or experience in the energy trading industry is a plus.
• A passion for solving complex problems and enabling teams to thrive.
• Can investigate through complex issues using a plethora of debugging tools as necessary
• Good understanding of the .Net runtime and low level system fundamentals like networks
