Job Description

Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Site Engineer I is to perform infrastructure-related activities in our Data Centres under general supervision. This ensures the reliable and efficient operation of the technical infrastructure through maintenance, testing, and surveillance of all installed assets.

This role is critical to meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs), delivering client satisfaction, and, when applicable, being part of a 24/7 shift rotation.

The position reports to the Data Centre Site Leadership. The Site Engineer works closely with the Lead Engineer, Manager of Engineering Operations, and other site teams. Beyond site operations, this role maintains contact with Property Operations, Service Planning, Implementation Services, and Customer Success Management. External interactions include customers and suppliers operating on-site.

Level Of Impact

The role is essential for ensuring reliable and efficient data center operations. The Site Engineer I contributes by:

  • Ensuring stable and reliable operation of critical assets supporting customer equipment.
  • Supporting agreed-upon SLAs through efficient infrastructure operation.
  • Mitigating unplanned maintenance and asset failures.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness within the data center.

This position carries no budget responsibility.

Responsibilities And Duties

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to company safety policies, operational efficiency standards, and core values.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Assist in maintenance and repair tasks as directed by senior engineers or Site Operations Management.
  • Participate in on-call duties and incident management when required.
  • Collaborate with other engineers under the guidance of Site Management.
  • Continuously enhance technical skills through practical experience and training opportunities.

Operations And Compliance

  • Assist in coordinating and executing equipment or system switching procedures to ensure smooth transitions with minimal disruption.
  • Support initiatives to improve energy efficiency and optimization within the data center.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs as outlined in customer contracts.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and report deficiencies as needed.
  • Proactively identify and report potential SLA breaches.
  • Follow approved work processes, safety standards, and legal requirements.

Maintenance And Repair

  • Conduct maintenance and repair tasks as assigned by Site Operations Management or planned by the Technical Operations Planning function.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors and external suppliers.
  • Perform troubleshooting, assembly, and day-to-day scheduling of maintenance activities.

On-Call Duties And Incident Management

  • Participate in on-call duties, including infrastructure surveillance, site inspections, and monitoring the Building Management System.
  • Manage incidents in collaboration with the Manager on Duty.
  • Activate and execute Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) when required.
  • Proactively report risks to SLA compliance.

Documentation And Reporting

  • Document progress, issues, and results for assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Execute MOPs, Change Requests (CRs), and EOPs.

Compliance And Safety

  • Ensure the site’s cleanliness and escalate deficiencies when necessary.
  • Follow all safety protocols, risk assessments, and approved work processes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support ad hoc projects, such as fire safety initiatives, environmental sustainability efforts, energy efficiency optimization, security enhancements, compliance audits, and technology integration.
  • Actively contribute observations and suggestions to improve data center effectiveness and efficiency.

Qualifications And Competencies

Hard Skills:

  • 0-2 years of experience in site management operations and maintenance of large-scale electrotechnical and/or mechanical systems.
  • Vocational-level education in a technical or site engineering position (at least apprenticeship level).
  • Novice to skilled in:
    • Operation and maintenance of electrotechnical and/or mechanical systems.
    • Maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
    • Maintenance of conveyor systems (elevators) and/or technical security systems (CCTV, Access Control).
    • HVAC mechanical and/or electrical systems.
Soft Skills
