Application Deadline: 31 December 2024
Department: Urbanism - Architect/Technologist
Location: London
Description
Our multi-disciplinary urban design and commercial architecture team are looking for a newly qualified Part III architect or experienced Part II to assist with our masterplanning, housing and commercial design services. We collaborate with legacy clients who prioritize long-term investment in placemaking and sustainable urban environments. As a growing team, we offer great opportunities for progression for the right candidate.
This exciting opportunity will see candidates assist with the expansion of the existing Winchester-based Urbanism studio to a new London-based Urbanism studio at our offices in Somerset House. In addition to the ability to work independently, candidates will have the opportunity to work closely with directors as well as members of the wider Urbanism team in Winchester.
Key Responsibilities
As a key member of the urban design team, candidates will play a pivotal role in guiding projects from strategic development through to detailed design, with a particular focus on the architectural elements of larger urban schemes. They will produce coordinated designs for RIBA Stage 3, ensuring projects seamlessly transition from planning to detailed design and construction. With a strong emphasis on placemaking, candidates will work on diverse public buildings, including schools, nurseries, commercial and retail units, community facilities, and residential and specialist housing. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with members of the wider Urbanism team as well as manage small teams and operate independently.
Candidates should have the ability to design by hand and on computer. Experience of operating ArchiCAD is an advantage but not essential as training is provided. No prior experience of traditional or classical architecture is necessary provided individuals have a passion for the traditional and contextual urbanism we promote.
- Strong interest or experience in urban scale projects up to stage three.
- Good drawing and presentation skills.
- Strong design ability coupled with an eye for detail.
- Awareness of technical standards, regulatory frameworks and health and safety requirements.
- Well organised, with good time management skills; proficient at working on a varied portfolio of work and meeting all deadlines.
- Good people skills, comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
